August 3rd - 14th 2013, Visitor from Australia ...

On short notice, Cynthia's friend Sandra jumped on a plane and visited us for around 10 days...

We picked her up @ Frankfurt Airport on Satday morning and - to help her with the jet-lag - we timed Carola's University celebration the same day ... so we kept her busy ... Next day - weather was great - we took her on a tour to the Odenwald ... she also had to suffer from the cabriolet ;-)
... and we had some drinks at the castle Hirschhorn at the river Neckar.
One big trip we did - together with Carola and Claudia - was 2 days in Regensburg. We had lunch at the famous Wurstkuchl, where we had the traditional sausages with Sauerkraut ...
We had a Segway tour booked for the afternoon and while the driving was a lot of fun for all of us, our tour guide was an expert in comedy English. It was breathtakingly limited, we hardly got any information about Regensburg and we learned a lot of "new" vocabulary ... sometimes we all looked at each other and wondered what she meant!
Here you can see, that Sandra was already expected in Regensburg ...
And as it was a hot day, the women cooled down their feet in this fountain ...
Here another photo of all of us with the segways ...
Next day we went approx. 30kms South to Kelheim. First step was the "liberation hall", which celebrates the liberation from the French ... we were pretty sure, that our Regensburg guide would have called it "library hall" ;-))
Here's Thomas, Cynthia and Sandra on top of the building ... and you see the river Danube in the background ...
... where we later caught a boat to pass the Danube Gorge, the narrow part, where the river made its way through ...
... this trip brought us to the monastery of Weltenburg, where beer has been brewed since more than 900 years ... and we had lunch at their beergarden ...
One day, Cynthia took Sandra to the obligatory visit of Heidelberg, castle, tour etc. included ...
Last big trip was the river Mosel, which we started in the city of Trier ... here in front of the Porta Nigra ...
We had a stop at Bernkastel-Kues at the river Mosel ... just to impress Sandra with the picturesque houses ... ;-)
Here all of us in Bernkastel-Kues ...
... and on top of the mountain with the city in the background ...
Last night, last stop: we crossed to the river Rhine to have dinner at castle "Schoenburg" ... here the breathtaking view onto the river Rhine ...
... and we had a fantastic gourmet dinner there ... definitely a place to remember!

It was really nice to have Sandra visit us here in Germany and be able to show her around a little of where we live! We hope she enjoyed spending time with us and we're looking forward to seeing her again!
