September 10-30st, 2011, Tristen in Germany ...

Long awaited Cynthia's friend Tristen arrived safely on Saturday morning ...

On day 1 we had a little tour around the Odenwald ... to show her the area where we live a bit ...
A visit to Heidelberg was also on the agenda ...

Regensburg

On Wednesday, we drove a day to Regensburg, Bavaria (world heritage) ... and started with a segway tour (really great!)
Beautiful day - as you can see - here the city with the Cathedral and the stone bridge ...
Here in full "dynamics" ... it's really fun to drive around with it ...
... and of course we had lunch in the famous "sausage kitchen" ...

Dresden

As Thomas had a workshop close to Dresden, we took the car to spend two days there ... here after arrival in the hotel bar (directly beside the Frauenkirche) ... having a welcome drink ...
On our first night we had dinner in the restaurant "Pulverturm" (powder tower) with traditional food ... here a view of the vault
Here the two ladies in front of the famous Frauenkirche ... Tristen loves churches (so she gets one ...)
We had a guided tour through Dresden ....
... here inside the "Zwinger" ...
It was exactly 12 o'clock, when the clock started its melody on porcelain bells ...
The only slightly rainy day in three weeks saw Trissie like this ... enjoying crepes ... you can see the experienced backpacker ... ;-)
Having a rest in a cafe ... Trissie discovered the "new wine" ... this starts off as grape juice and develops more and more alcohol over the days ...
Here another view of the "coastline" of Dresden ...
... and a farewell with the Frauenkirche and Neumarkt. We drove back Tuesday night and arrived safely home.

Oktoberfest Munich

After spending 3 days alone in Berlin, Tristen and Cynthia had a day tour to Munich ... first a visit at the Dachau concentration camp ... and then of course Oktoberfest ...
As you can see here, Tristen fell in love with the German Brezels ... here the slightly bigger version of it ...

Prague

As our last big trip we took a hire car (Prague is the centre of car theft) to Prague ... about a 4,5 hours drive ... so around the corner for Aussies ... here the two of us having a first beer there ...
The weather was again fantastic, 25 degrees at the end of September ... here a view of the old city and the Karlsbruecke (Charles bridge) ...
Cynthia and Thomas visited this museum ... it was great ... and Thomas loved this advertising ...
Tristen and Cynthia in front of the "Rathaus" (mayor's office) ...
This is a photo taken from the powder tower (yes there is one too) ... the old city and the castle in the background ...
The central square ... it's amazing the amount of old buildings ...
Here from the castle hill a total overview ...
Second night we had dinner alone ... Tristen suffered from the "being-together-too-long-with-Germans" Allergy
Last day we walked through the new part of town ... here the two ladies ...
... at some buildings you can still see how it looked like before 1989 ...
We had a coffee in the "Grand Hotel Europa" ... you feel 100 years back in time ...
A last overview picture of Prague, the bridge and the castle ...
Last night, back in Weinheim, we had a farewell dinner at the Marktplatz ...
... which Trissie enjoyed obviously ...

Friday morning we headed back to the airport and while we're writing this, Tristen is approaching Melbourne Airport again. We hope, you enjoyed your time (thanks for the lovely card!) and we are looking forward to seeing you again here in Germany!
