July 7-14th, 2011, David visiting...

For one week we had our Aussie friend David over ... he spends a couple of months in the UK and took the long flight from London to Frankfurt ;-)

After his arrival we took him on a little tour through the Odenwald, the woods adjacent to Weinheim ... here having lunch in a little restaurant there ...
That night we had dinner at the Marktplatz, including Thomas' mum ... first contact with German food ... and he survived it!
A more detailed walk through Weinheim showed David one of the largest cedars in a park ...
... and of course the old part of the village ... totally exhausted after the walk we HAD to take a drink at the Marktplatz ...
To provide something special German for him, we had an Aussie (!) barbecue with Argentine beef at home ... the whole family included ...
Next day we took David to the other side of the Rhine valley, the Weinstrasse (wine street) ... here overlooking it (the mountains visible at the horizon is where we live).
We had a nice lunch with "Saumagen" (a pallatine speciality, pork stomach) in a beergarden at a local winery there ...
The big day tour of Monday took us first to Trier, the oldest city of Germany ... here the "porta negra", dated back 2.000 years ...
From there on we drove along the river Mosel, saw winery after winery and had lunch in Bernkastel-Kues ...
... here David in front of the tower there ...
Up on the hill we had an overview of the Mosel valley ...
By accident we found one of the two remaining little ferries over the Mosel ... the photo shows us on the way to Beilstein on the other side ...
Here the ferry again from the other side ...
We had a coffee there overlooking the Mosel ...
... and continued our tour along the river Rhine, having dinner at St. Goar ... close to the famous rock of "Loreley".
Next day, Heidelberg was on the agenda ... here on the castle overlooking the Neckar and Heidelberg ...
Last day we went to Stuttgart to the Mercedes museum, which was impressive as ever ...
... and had lunch with Swabian specialities (lentils and Spaetzle) in Stuttgart.

Well, it was great to have you hear, David and a safe trip back home!
