6. - 8. July 2007: Quick weekend in Hamburg ...

After the return of Cynthia from Australia (and the hard times there) we decided to have a short weekend trip to Hamburg.

On Friday morning we started and had the first shock after 150km ... the car got wobbly at 230km/h and as it didn't get better I stopped. Just to find out, that the left rear tyre was completely flat due to a nail in it! So we were happy to survive and after changing tire we finally arrived in Hamburg ... ... here the "Rathaus" (mayor's office).
We booked in a wonderful hotel, absolutely in the city centre ... and had a first walk where we ended up in a wine festivity (Stuttgart "Weinfest" visiting Hamburg) ... having a glass of Riesling ...
... no comment ...
We went up the memorial church "St. Nikolai" - 75m - and had a view around Hamburg - here the harbour.
Friday night we had dinner with Achim and his wife Maike (a customer of Thomas) in a restaurant at the "Reeperbahn" ... the red-light district of Hamburg ... btw. where the Beatles started their career.
Saturday we visited the "Speicherstadt" (storage city), still the biggest storage area for goods ... having a look at the only "spice" museum in the world.
... and in the afternoon we went to the musical "Dirty Dancing", which was fantastic ... ... here in the theatre before the show started ...
Saturday night we went out for dinner ... after phoning 8 (eight!) restaurants we finally found one ... but couldn't get there because roads were blocked due to another festival ... ... but the taxi-driver recommended the "fish kitchen" (Fischküche) which ended up being a good choice!
Sunday morning we had another walk around the "Alster" ... had a coffee in the traditional hotel "Atlantic" and then drove home again!
