Lisbon ...

After a bloody bumpy night and day at sea (we hardly slept a minute) we arrived in Lisbon ... here a first view from the ship ... the old part of town was just a 10 minute-walk away ...
We first had a panoramic bus tour booked ... here the enormous monastry, whích we've forgotten the name of ;-) ..
Here our lecturer running ahead with Cynthia in hot pursuit trying to follow with Ruth in the wheelchair ...
Well streets have to be cleaned for the tourists ... in Australia she would be over the retirement age ...
Here the amazing entrance of this monastery ...
.... more old buildings to come ... here one of the landmarks of Lisbon, the Tower of Belem ...
... with us in front of it ... btw it was supposed to be a rainy day, but - guess what - the rain didn't come!
Last stop of the bus tour was a viewpoint over the city ... here Lisbon, the harbour and (top left) the castle ...
In the afternoon we parked Thomas' mum in her cabin ;-) and had a walk through the old part of the city ... here a "hidden" (escondidinho) restaurant / snack bar on the way up to the castle ...
Unfortunately that's how most of the city looks like ... no solidarity tax like in Eastern Germany ... must have been beautiful in its time ...
The old tram still going strong ... very steep uphill ...
... and another little typical lane on our way ...
That's one of the moments you're lucky to capture as a photographer ...
... including this one ... this is hidden-away car workshop in the middle of the old town ... you actually see the whole workshop in this photo ...
Here the Roman ruins ... just joking ...
And here ... Cynthia and Thomas proudly present: a public urinal (see mirror writing "urinol") ... in the middle of the street leading up to the castle ... so before you enter it you can relieve yourself ...
Finally we made it up to the castle ... we did that just to present you that wide-angle view of Lisbon and the bridge ...
Here another typical corner of Lisbon ... restaurant, two cameras, five spotlights, two traffic signs ... which actually say: Turn Around!
After walking back down-town, we had a coffee ... our usual excuse to write postcards ...
The sunshine came back ... we're back at the river Tejo ...
... and the main plaza with the old castle and city gate ...
That night we left Lisbon behind ... this our farewell photo of Lisbon at night ...
... We had a lovely dinner at the special Italian restaurant "Venezia" ... not knowing yet that another bumpy night will follow!

Well Lisbon was interesting, sadly more or less run-down, but you can see that it must have been a magnificent city in the past ...
