Madeira, Funchal ...

After arrival in Funchal (Madeira), we were greeted with that wonderful rainbow ... here the capital as we saw it from our suite ...
First we took a private walk into the town centre ... here along the harbour ... not to mention that we were lucky with the weather again ;-) ...
A little flower shop in the middle of the street ... with the colourful taxis in the background ...
... and old men playing cards (or similar) with more older men watching them ...
In the afternoon we had booked a bus tour incl. tea time at the Reid's Palace Hotel ... here driving along the main road with all the hotels ...
We had a first stop at a little fishing village ... with the second highest cliff in the world (580m), Cabo Girao in the background ... that's where we headed next ...
Here some more impressions of that village ... they even had a memorial for Winston Churchill, who used to paint there ...
After the bus made its way up there on long and winding roads we enjoyed this breathtaking view of the island and Funchal ... rainbows seem to be quite popular there ;-) ...

The stop at the Reid's Palace Hotel included an original English afternoon tea time ... with scones, sandwiches, little cakes and - of course - English tea! ... Here a view from the hotel ... the left quarter of the photo is a reflection in a mirror (although it looks like an extension of the right part) ... so you can see our ship twice on this photo!
Last stop of the bus tour was a viewpoint above Funchal ... here a wide-angle view of it ... incl. the harbour with the MS Europa ...

So we found Madeira very pretty and probably worth another visit to see more of this Portugese island (as we've only seen a fraction of it)!
