August 8th - 12th, 2010, Caroline and David visiting from Oz ...

Sunday, around lunch time, Caroline and David arrived from Krakow ... and we headed towards Weinheim!

After arrival we made a short walk through Weinheim ... it was the weekend of "Kerwe", which is like a Mini-Octoberfest (although "maxi" for Weinheim) ... here David with his first German Bratwurst ...
We had a drink at the Marktplatz and the first night dinner was at home with some regional specialities ...
Monday we took a tour with the two convertibles through the Odenwald ... here Caroline and Cynthia ...
... and David and Thomas ... had to use the old car ;-)
First stop was an old ruin at the river Neckar, where we climbed up the short way ...
... and - of course - had a photo taken ...
Next stop was Heidelberg, where we walked through the city centre and up to the castle ... here on the Neckar bridge with Heidelberg Castle in the background ...
In the evening we headed to Marktplatz again ... it was still "Kerwe" time ... so cramped full!
Inside our favourite restaurant it was a tad quieter ... and we had a really good time ... the "Diebsloch platter" with local special dishes was highly accepted by our guests ...
... here a photo including Carola and Claudia ... when there is free food, they even join old people for dinner!
As you can see on this photo we did have alcoholic drinks ... and extended the enjoyment at home on the balcony ...

Lake Constance / Zurich

Tuesday we made a huge tour towards the very South of Germany ... here the four of us arriving at the Lake Constance, the biggest lake in Central Europe ...
Our first stop was Meersburg, an old medieval city directly at the lake ... here a nice photo of David and Caroline in the city centre ...
we had a nice lunch there ... and we also located the biggest beergarden ever ;-)))
We drove on to Friedrichshafen and - due to the time - started straightaway to cross the lake by ferry ... on to Romanshorn in Switzerland ... here Cynthia and Caroline on the ferry ...
... in the middle of the lake ...
... on short notice we decided to also include Zurich in this day (it was already 18:30 when we arrived) ... here the river Limmat through the city ...
... we found out, that Jimi Hendrix is obviously not dead ... they just jammed at the river side ...
... and we had our photo taken of us, before ...
... we went to Eveline and Daniel, who were spontanously ready to have dinner with us ... at the lovely restaurant around where they live in Thalwil ... great food and great view on the Lake Zurich ...
We had a great dinner in Thalwil (thanks again to Eveline and Daniel) and finished dinner around 22:30 there (see night photo) ... ... we then headed home (340kms), arrived at 01:15 in the morning ... and were quite tired ... all in all 800 kms this day ... and a new experience for David and Caroline as we hit the 300km/h on the way home ;-)

Museum and last dinner

Last day we visited the "Technikmuseum" in Sinsheim, the only one in the world with both hypersonic planes ... Concorde and Tupulev ...
... including a lot of military stuff ...
... that was of special interest to David, who - just the week before - made 4th in the world championship for model airplanes in Poland (!) ...
That evening we had a last dinner at the Marktplatz, enjoyed some nice beer ... and David told me that
"he thinks he has found a new friend"

 ... pause ...

"I think it was in Poland and I forgot his name" ;-)))

Bloody blunt Australians!!! We Germans would never do that!!!! Never!!!!
... and had a lovely dinner together ... here with Carola and Natasha ... Next morning we had to say farewell at Frankfurt Airport, as they headed towards Vienna ...

So we have to thank Caroline and David again for their visit and we hope they had a good rest of their trip through Europe!
