22. July - 12. August 2007: Cynthia's mum in Germany

Moira, Cynthia's mum (78!) arrived on Sunday morning, fit as a sport shoe (as we say in Germany)! Already the first evening we had a dinner at the Marktplatz in Weinheim ...
Of course a tour through Heidelberg followed ...
... and our livers were working hard!!

29. July - 1. August 2007: Long weekend in Geneva / Marseille ...

With Moira (Cynthia's mum) being here in Germany, we decided for something special: We drove down to Marseille, France, where Cynthia's grandmother was born.

Half way to there, we stopped over in Geneva, a wonderful city, where Thomas has made a project at the Airport ... in the photo Lake Geneva with the fountain.
Finally we arrived next day in Marseille and booked in a lovely hotel directly at the old harbour (vieux port). Beautiful weather, sunshine and - surprisingly - a fascinating city.
We stayed two nights and on day two we made a tour with a boat around Marseille harbour ... and had a look at lot's of "old stones", forts, the churches ...
On the last evening, we had a fish dinner (which Cynthia hardly survived) in a completely overpriced but therefore very arrogant restaurant "Miramar" ... ;-) Next day we drove home (940km), had a nice stop inbetween and were quite tired then ...

4. - 6. August 2007: Weekend in Regensburg, Bavaria ...

to visit Thomas' mum and celebrate his birthday

We started with a lunch at the sausage kitchen (see June '06) ...
... had a guided tour in English through Regensburg (one of the only bigger medieval towns that was not been destroyed in the war). 60% of all buildings in the city are older than 300 years ... but full of life!
Finally we celebrated Thomas' birthday with a perfect dinner over the roofs of Regensburg ... six course menu ... wonderful! As you see, Thomas had to go out with 6 (in words: six!) women all the time ... donations for the psychiatrist fees are very welcome!
From our dinner place we could see the big cathedral during the sunset ...
Sunday, we took a boat to a place, where the river Danube ("Donau") made its way through the rocks...
... and ended up drinking German wheat beer ... here a "small" beer, i. e. half a litre ...
... in a monastry beergarden, that had the oldest monastry brewery of the world (beer tradition since 1050).

The rest of week three we spent in Weinheim, but ...

... one day we drove to Stuttgart and visited the new Mercedes-Benz museum, which was absolutely fantastic ... especially after Cynthia and Moira found the Buenos Aires bus!
Friday that week, the big yearly festival started in Weinheim ... and of course we participated! Sunday, Moira flew home again and we're looking forward to the next time!
